The purpose of this page is to provide you with the latest information we have on scholarships. It should be used as a resource for those students who plan to continue their education after high school. Remember these are only the scholarships that have been sent to Guidance in past years. Many other scholarships are available however, we are unable to house all scholarships offered. We are constantly updating our files. Deadlines, contact persons, and scholarship requirements may vary from year to year. We also suggest that you “google” these scholarships for more current information and go on line to do your own scholarship search. Financial assistance may be available if you have a disabling condition--whether a learning disability or physical disability. Disabling conditions such as orthopedic disability, diabetes, epilepsy, learning disabilities, visual impairment, and speech/hearing impairment may qualify you for college tuition, books, supplies or technical school tuition/tools or job placement assistance. VETERANS ADMINISTRATION BENEFITS - Children of veterans who have died in service or as a result of service-connected disability; who have become permanently and totally disabled as a result of service-connected disability; who died while a disability so evaluated was in existence; or who have been listed as missing in action, captured, detained, or interned in line of duty for more than 90 days, may apply for government assistance for college at the local office of Veterans Affairs. Some
scholarship websites to look at are: www.absolutelyscholarships.com Completed
applications are to be mailed out by the student, unless
otherwise noted. For some scholarships only one applicant from
the school may be selected. Selection is done by a scholarship
committee. Therefore, it is important for you to begin early and
complete applications neatly and on time. It is the student’s
responsibility to obtain their recommendations and transcripts.
It is also suggested you keep a copy of applications submitted.
GO FOR IT!!!
THERE IS MONEY OUT THERE! 1. Does the scholarship application clearly state the number of awards, the amount or range of each stipend, and the duration of the stipend? (For example, is it a one-time offer, renewable, etc.?) 2. Does the scholarship application clearly define who evaluates your application, including their qualifications, and the criteria for selection of scholarship recipients? (Criteria such as the significance of GPA, class rank, class year, test scores, merit, need, and citizenship/residency requirements?) 3. Does the scholarship application state how awards can be used? (For example, will funds be presented to you and your family? Paid directly to your college to be credited to your account? Used to reduce existing or future student loans?) 4. Does it list the deadlines for application requests and submissions, as well as the time and method for notifying winners? 5. If there are any costs or fees to compete for the scholarship, are they nomimal and waivable if financial hardship can be demonstrated? 6. If there are fees included in the scholarship application process, is there also a brief, yet verifiable, description of what the fees are used for? 7. Does the scholarship program supply relevant background information? (Such as the for-profit or not-for-profit structure of the organization, how long the organization has been awarding scholarships, and where you can find additional information about those in charge?) 8. Upon your request, does the scholarship program supply a list of winners from the previous five years? (If the program is new, does it clearly state when and where the list of winners will be posted?) 9. Do you have access to the financial statements from organizations that sponsor the scholarship? 10. Is a privacy policy prominent? (You should have the opportunity to approve the receipt of additional information from other organizations, or to request that your name not be released to other organizations.) |
