Mary-Katherine Pugh will be awarded the DAR Good Citizenship award at the Montgomery Country Club luncheon on April 9.

Mary Mayo participated in
the Montgomery Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Delta
Academy of Delta GEMS & Delteens during Spring Break. The workshops
attended were Dress for Success, Finance Workshop/Saving for the Future,
Health and Wellness, Building Self-Esteem, Leadership, and College
Preparation. Congratulations to Senior, Brandon Howard, who will be signing with Jefferson Davis Community College on April 9 to play basketball.
Congratulations to the following Taylor Road Academy winners at the Poetry Out Loud Competition at Huntington College: Kelli Schofield who won 4th place in original poetry, Mary-Katherine Pugh who won 3rd place in National Poetry Out Loud, and Rosie Smith who won 2nd place in original poetry and 1st place in National Poetry Out Loud. The Taylor Road Academy school library received a $200 check to buy new poetry books for the students. Senior, Rosie Smith, will compete in the National Competition in Washington DC. from April 27 – 30.
Taylor Road Academy Drama Department has chosen their cast for the Spring Show “Into the Woods”. Congratulations to the following cast members: Naomi Raney “Little Red Riding Hood”, Drew Danner “Wolf”, Erin Hammerdinger “Granny”, Mary-Katherine Pugh “Cinderella”, Nick Sheppard “Cinderella’s Prince”, Austin Lisenby “Cinderella’s Stepmother”, Samantha Clark “Rapunzel”, Joel Gann “Rapunzel’s Prince”, Samantha Wood “Lucinda”, Lynn Drinkard “Florinda”, Mitchell Bradley “Jack”, Kelli Schofield “Jack’s Mother”, Mark Beavers “Baker”, Jessica Christie “Baker’s Wife, Rosie Smith “Witch”, Brooks Burnett “ Mysterious Man”, Morgan Baker “Steward”. The performances will be May 8 – 10 at Aldergate United Methodist Church.
The Anatomy and Physiology class of Taylor Road Academy will be visiting the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center in Mobile, Al on Friday April 4. They class will visit the “Our Body: The Universe Within” show. “Our Body” is a contemplative, moving, educational human anatomy lesson. It explores the history and the art of the study of human anatomy. The exhibit features 12 complete human bodies and 75 anatomical specimens. The bodies and organs have been preserved using a polymer impregnation process. The goal of “Our Body” is that students leave with a deeper understanding of the body’s form and function and a stronger appreciation for staying fit and healthy. Taylor Road Academy’s Cheerleading Clinic will be April 28 – May 1 in the gym from 3:30 – 4:45. Tryouts will be held May 2 at 4:00 in the school’s gym. Please see Ms. Douglas for more information.

Raphael” by Naomie Rainey, “Tea party” by Kelsey Padgett, “the Clown and Hue” by Alex Gibbs, “The Red Fish is Eating” by Hailey McCoy, “Hue in Front of the New York Office” by Tommy Reinhardt, “Wearing the Clown’s Clothes” by Gina Gibbs, “Joseph Henshaw’s Wig” by Bailey Clement, “Untitled” by Amber Hill, “Surprising the Clown” by Angela Chen. If you are 14 or older and would like to participate in the Baptist Health Summer Volunteer Program, please see the high school office for a volunteer package. Students must have an overall B average. Students this would be a great opportunity for community service.
There is an AP Art History course offered by the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. It will be taught from 7:45-8:45 am, Monday – Thursday. There is no charge for this course and is offered to all rising juniors and seniors, but the application must be in by April 15. The two semester course is designed to introduce high school students to the understanding and enjoyment of works of art in historical context. April 10 & 11 is the AISA Secondary Choral Festival. Elementary Choral Festival is on April 18.
The 4-H Club workshops for the elementary grades will be on the morning of April 15.
Ms. Knoft’s 3rd grade class will be visiting the Birmingham Zoo on April 22.
The week of April 21 – 25 is Taylor Road Academy’s Aerospace Week. Our students will have a week filled of Civil Air Patrol and Space Activities.
Taylor Road Academy’s grades 7-12 will attend Math and Science day at Six Flags in Atlanta on Friday, April 25.
The American Red Cross will provide a morning of hands-on workshops and activities for K3-6 grade on the morning of April 30. The Red Cross will then meet with the Taylor Road Academy SGA during lunch for a seminar.
